From Dialogue to Action: Advancing E-Commerce and Digital Payments for Youth Employment
At INNFEST 2025, Helvetas contributed as a knowledge broker through the SDC Youth Employment Project, supporting AEACA in organizing two roundtable discussions focused on digital payments and e-commerce in the Balkans. These sessions brought together young entrepreneurs, policymakers, and digital economy experts to explore how digital tools can drive inclusive growth and employment.
Why Digital Payments Matter
Digital payment systems are more than just a convenience—they are a foundation for financial inclusion and economic participation. In regions like the Western Balkans, where access to traditional banking can be limited, digital payments offer a gateway for youth and small businesses to engage in the formal economy, build credit histories, and scale their operations.
E-Commerce as a Growth Engine
E-commerce is rapidly transforming how businesses operate and how consumers access goods and services. For young entrepreneurs, it offers a low-barrier entry point into the market, enabling them to reach customers beyond their immediate geography. However, to fully realize this potential, there is a need for stronger digital infrastructure, harmonized standards, and supportive policies across the region.
Building Knowledge and Collaboration
The roundtables at INNFEST served as a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. By bringing together diverse voices, the discussions helped identify both opportunities and challenges in the digital economy. This kind of dialogue is essential for shaping policies and initiatives that are responsive to the needs of youth and small businesses.
