Mirjana is a young woman living in Kukës, mother of two young children. Even though she is a graduate nurse, she does not agree with her current status of unemployment but to economically contribute to the family and raising of her two children, she has turned her eyes on her passion about handmade wool products and tailoring.

“This is the ideal combination for me, in a city like Kukës where employment opportunities are limited. I like preparing handmade wool products and this passion is opening new economic opportunities for me”- says Mirjana.

Mirjana is one of the 40 women from Kukës region participating in the new project “Market Development of Artisanal Wool” in Kukës (MDAWK), developed by the Social Development Investments (SDI) with Risi support.

We met Mirjana while she was attending a workshop for women artisans working with handmade wool products, learning modern techniques for designing, preparing and selling handmade wool products required from the domestic and foreign market.

“MDAWK it is a project aiming at empowering women through economic activities in Kukës with a specific focus on handmade wool artisan products from this region. We are improving the quality of the products by introducing new techniques and investing in marketing skills, promotion through online and social media” – said Elias Mazloum, director of SDI.

Anyone interested to buy Mirjana’s and her friends’ products can visit mdawk.mozello.com and find other information on the Facebook  page of the project.

The sales generated through these pages, create new incomes, new jobs, and help reactivate the wool value chain in Kukës region.

The project Market Development of Artisanal Wool in Kukës region is creating access and developing a new market by standardizing Albanian wool products according to standards required by the domestic and international markets.
