Albanian fruits and vegetables exporters on their way to new European markets
15 Albanian companies supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Swiss government project RisiAlbania, and GIZ participated on February 6-8, 2019 at the FRUIT LOGISTICA Fair in Berlin, the world’s leading hotspot of the fresh fruit industry.
During the Fair, Albanian Fruits and vegetables exporters had more than 200 meetings with potential buyers and technology providers, the perfect opportunity to introduce Albanian products to new European markets.
“Albanian farmers need to certify their products and increase quality standards to meet European market requirements. “- said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Mr. Dhimo Kote at the Fair.
Albanian companies that export Fruits and Vegetables such as chestnuts, apples, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, garlic, watermelons and other commodities participated in the fair, that attracted 3,200 exhibitors from 90 countries. Some of the representatives of large companies supplying supermarket networks expressed interest in visiting Albania soon.
In order to meet the demand of high-value markets such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, etc. for qualified products, one of the certifications often required is GlobalG.A.P, a certification that has been created by large supermarket networks in Europe. In this regard, RisiAlbania is piloting group certification among exporters, and in March 16th the GLOBAL G.A.P. TOUR will take place in Tirana.
